b_220_220_16777215_00___.._images_homepage_logo_new2.pngNational Centre of Security and Defence (NCSD) is a study and research institution in the field of security and defence at the strategic level, subordinated to the Minister of Defence, which approves the policy of strategic research, regulation of activity, annual and mid-term plan.

Types of research and study projects NCSD develops:

- Monitoring and strategic evaluations;
- Regional studies and research tasks;
- Analytical studies and research of reforms developments;
- Defining strategic attitudes (NATO, EU, UN, OSCE, etc.);
- Case studies, comparative studies and research thesis;
- Elaboration of development policy and strategic concepts;
- Technological interaction analytical reports;
- Conducts analytical reports of after-strategic activities;
- Update information on important strategic issues.

In every research and study product, informative and assessment values, synthesis and applicative values are integrated with the recommendations for the best courses of action for the decision-making authorities based on stable arguments and on reliable statistics.

Mission and main tasks

The support of the Ministry of Defence and state institutions with regional, scientific, technological studies and research in the interest of reform in the field of security and defence of the country to meet their constitutional mission and obligations of the EU and NATO integration. NCSD, in accordance to the mission and composition has the following main tasks: support relevant institutions with oriented studies and research in the field of security and defence; it secures information from various sources; it conducts analysis, assessments and forecasts, evaluates and recommends attitudes of the expectations of national, regional security and beyond; it engages in the development of policies, concepts and formulation of strategic documents in the field of security and defence; it carries out strategic monitoring of our region and other countries of special interest; it conducts studies and research in interest in technological developments and its standardization; it coordinates with other state institutions and establishes bilateral, regional and international cooperation in the field of strategic studies and defence (NATO, EU, UN, OSCE); it contributes to the development of a community of prominent collaborators and researchers in the field of security and defence; it publishes, and informs by text and electronic form research products prepared in Albanian and English languages, and develops its separate website regarding security and defence issues; it organizes and participates in national and international conferences and activities, and organizes information meetings with relevant institutions regarding challenging update on issues of security and defence.

Structure

Organizational structure and NCSD composition:
NCSD Director is assisted by a Deputy Director and an administrative support staff.
Department of Security Research and International Relations, with analysts and experts in the fields of security environment, international relations, regional studies, security policies, integration in security organisms and legal issues, etc. Defence Research Department with analysts and experts on defence policy, planning and drafting of strategic documents, integration issues, military cooperation, etc. Department of Research and Technological Development, with analysts and experts in the field of security and defence technological developments, interoperability and technological standardization, new cyber threats, missile defence, weapons of mass destruction and asymmetric threats, etc. Cooperation and Publications Sector, with specialists in the field of research, text and online publications, translation, cooperation in the field of security and defence research within the country and abroad, etc.
