At the inauguration ceremony of the book that held the stamp of the Italian Defence Ministry, attended the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Arben Imami, Deputy Chief of General Staff, Brigadier General Sandër Lleshi, the Italian Ambassador in Tirana, Mr. Sabba D’Elia, generals, directors and senior officers of the Ministry of Defence and General Staff, pedagogues and military students, and representatives of the Italian Delegation of Experts.

According to the organizers and speakers of this event, the book entitled: “The resistance of Italian Militaries in Albania”, was published for the first time in year 2000 in Italy, while its republication is available for his Albanian military readers, in another dimension. Interestingly, this book was published 6 years after the book entitled: “Albanian militaries in the Italian Armed Forces, 1939-1943”, which bears the name of another Italian author.

In its particular and partial aspects, the book of Mr. Coltrinari is known to students of Defence Military Academy, but the full and translated version in Albanian language is available for the first time today through this promotion. The book has a historical-military nature and is the 9th volume of the series regarding the Italian military resistance from ceasefire on 8 September 1943, which was carried out by a special study committee of the Italian Ministry of Defence. In this book the author concentrates on Italian military developments in Albania and War World II.

During his speech held in front of a wide audience, Minister Imami said: “It’s a great pleasure for me to participate in a meeting of such special importance which is organized on the occasion of the presentation of this book. I want to thank you cordially for the events you describe in this book, which occurred during the most decisive period in my country and in this sense, your work is an integral part of the Albanian historiography. I admire the fact that you specifically assess the friendship shown by the Albanian people to the Italian soldiers that took place in a very difficult situation after the fall of Mussolini’s government and the return of Badoglio’s government and ceasefire with Great Alliance”, said among others Minister Imami.

While considering this a very difficult moment for the Albanian people, Minister Imami said: “I thank you for this important contribution, which undoubtedly will also serve to the militaries who study at our Military Academy, as well as I thank you for a sense of humanity and gratitude, because actually gratitude is probably the most precious virtue of man and of peoples”, concluded the number one the Albanian defence.

The Italian Ministry of Defence has published a series of publications concerning Italian military presence outside its territory. And this book is precisely the continuity of these publications which in their content have the history of the Italian war with other people.
This book is a volume of 1800 pages that refers precisely to Albania and the Italian presence in our country.

The book is divided into 7 chapters starting from the history and geographical configuration of Albania, from the antiquity, World War I, Telini mission, relations and political developments between Albania and Italy until the unification of the Kingdom of Albania in the personal union under the direction of Victor Emmanuel the Third. Of course, the main part in this act is occupied by the military events of the years 1943-1944, which reflected the situation of the Italian army, their resistance against new enemy, cooperation with Albanian forces until their second fate after the end of World War II.
